Role

Graphic designer, Art director

Duration

3 months

Overview

This project belongs to the Capstone course at RMIT University. The class of 7 students with 7 projects contributed to a joint exhibition with the aim to give the audiences a multi-dimensional perspective, yet contains a strong connection to history, culture, people, and the city of Hanoi.

Personal project - "Garden"

“Vườn” is an event aiming at embracing the rustic images of flower market traders - the ones who adorn the city scene with various colors from the “garden” growing surround them throughout many developing vicissitudes of Hanoi city. Besides the wish of raising awareness about the manual workers in general and the flower traders in particular, the author hopes the event can make participants more or less gradually pay more attention to the idyllic simple beauties that “colorize” their own daily lives.

How to define "Vườn"?

  • A space to connect, communicate, and share.
  • A space to learn and acknowledge the presence of an ordinary image in the city as a part of long-lasting culture throughout the history.
  • A space to perceive the rustic life of a particular group that belongs to the manual labour community – the traders at flower markets.

Team project - "In the House, On the Street"

"Trong Nha Ngoai Pho" (English translation: "In the House, On the Street") is an exhibition co-organized by a group of Design Studies students from RMIT University with the Vietnam National Museum of History.

Along with the mission of changing the view towards history in general and the History Museum in particular, "Trong Nha Ngoai Pho" is a place to display ideas and projects, not only contemporary but also dynamic, open, and innovative. The exhibition aims to become one of the first stepping stones to achieving the mission of "preserving modern values".

My role

Being the leader was not easy at all. This role requires lots of responsibilities, abilities to manage time and people, communications, etc. I've tried my best to lead the team throughout the final month of the semester with the aim of our exhibition success. Unfortunately, we were not able to exhibit our group works, but luckily, our individual works were presented in another exhibition held by VFCD a few months later.

The website

During the time we planned for our group exhibition, I also made a website for us to showcase our works online. It is not fully completed yet since at the end of the semester, we received the news saying that we were not allowed to exhibit our projects publicly. However, it is still one of my works so I would like to show it here.

Conclusion

The course was intense, it was an opportunity for me to challenge myself as a team leader and dive deeper into the beauty, the value, and the art of my normal daily life in the city where I live.
