Poppin (2022)

Approach - Where did it start?

At the beginning, I was stuck with ideas, wondering "What should I do for this big project?". I scrolled through my photo galleries, my saves on Instagram, trying to find anything that shall give me some inspiration.

During that process, I accidentally found a screenshot of a song taken long ago that I had never looked back to listen to. The guilty feeling as I forgot that and the Eureka moment came at the same time 😀.

Understanding the user

Foundation research including primary and secondary research was executed to gather insights before moving on. The goal is to identify user needs and pain points in order to address those findings with my product.

Personas

I gathered insights from the findings which help me realizing user Goals, Preferences, and Pains. This was narrowed to the Age & Gender, Location, Family Status and their Occupation.

Starting the design

First was to define the system of the app based on previously collected insights from Empathize and Define phases. The app concept has been executed during this part too.

How it finally looks like?

The first draft prototype with User Testing helped me look back and make some changes for a better UX. Initial version of the app did not have a proper tab bar, which made the user really hard to navigate around the app. Some icons were not clear enough so I also did a little tweak for them. This section will show the final version and introduce some service features.

Landing page design

A landing page serving as a coming soon page was also produced to help site visitors know more about Poppin.

Conclusion

This is one of the most complete projects I have ever worked on a personal scale. From the perspective of a graduation work, the project contributes to a much clearer picture of my future career direction when I really want to dive deeper into UX/UI and learn more in this area. This project has much potential to develop into practical prospective scenarios for me. I'm really proud that it was chosen to be presented on the RMIT Online Showcase as one of the outstanding student projects in 2023.
