Duration

Overview

A publishing agency asks me to make some editorial illustrations for their digital and physical magazine about mental health. This topic would relate strongly to young people from 16 to 25 who are seeking help.

The project's challenge is the story revelation behind the trauma in human life. In other words, it's our own decision to grow better or suffer from painful tragedy.

Main task / Assignment 1

The challenge is to create two 6-frame B&W comic strips and a magazine cover that contains a sign relating to the content, in this case, I chose the fish.

The first outcome

For digital, I believe that static illustrations are not a good execution in this case. Therefore, I found the solution to the challenge by focusing on developing different kinds of reveal interaction. These interactive are before-after sliders, image masking, and stacked cards.

The result is three interactive illustrations with a consistent style. They are graphical and vibrant with some smudge textures included.

The second outcome

For the physical magazine, practice 2 comic strips and then do a cover related to the content of the comic.

Conclusion

These are my outcomes for the Illustrations stream at RMIT University Vietnam. I have always been into illustrations, so learning and making art was a great experience. Even though I like drawing, the struggle to create one piece is enormous and it often takes a lot of time and effort as I am not a natural illustrator and my illustration skills are not at that high level. But anyway, it's still one of my interests.
